System Support Technician

Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators.  Interacts with internal company resources and evaluates vendor products.  Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.  Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.  Ancillary duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space. Individual shall ensure all work accomplished on task utilizes the best commercial practices and current acceptable industry standards. In accordance with Defense Acquisition Policy changes and Government standards will be made wherever practical.

 

Job Purpose 

Nelson Intelligence Solutions, is seeking a highly skilled System Administrator in the Dam Neck, VA area to provide specialized technical assistance and expertise for mission specific systems. 

 

Essential Functions of the Job 

  • Shall support associated installed hardware currently operational in the USMC IC.
  • Shall support technical issues through access of any GEOINT support.
  • Shall also provide training reports, attendance rosters and feedback reports
  • Shall address basic and advanced level operator/maintainer training for USMC user and system administrator.
  • Shall provide supplemental mentor training and over the shoulder support to USMC students
  • Shall Develop "contractor format" training curriculum based on feedback from users
  • Shall be Responsible for 7x24 day-to-day operations of mission critical systems and services
  • Shall respond to telephone calls and email requests for technical support
  • Shall assist with the disposal of IT equipment (DRMO)
  • Shall exhibit the capability to resolve issues independently
  • Shall coordinate, communicate, escalate required changes and major issues
  • Shall brief Senior Leadership on all IT issues affecting the AOR
  • Shall possess Word Processing Skills.
  • Shall possess Spreadsheets Skills.
  • Shall possess Database Skills.
  • Shall possess Electronic Presentation Skills.
  • Shall possess Web Navigation Skills
  • Shall possess Basic Web Site Design Skills.
  • Shall possess Knowledge Management Skills.

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of an Active Secret Clearance 
  • Minimum six (6) years of system administrator experience 
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification 
  • CompTIA Server+ Certification or MCSA Windows Server 2008 Certification or MCP Certification Windows Server 2012 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Working knowledge of VMWare 
  • Shall be able to perform Tier 1-3 functions and is expected to resolve or assist in resolving complex issues
  • Shall be able to manage and maintain Windows Server 2016/2019 Operating Systems
  • Shall be able to maintain Windows File Servers to include permissions management, user support, and backup & recovery efforts
  • Shall possess familiarity with Group Policy Objects and direct management of related Active Directory objects
  • Shall possess experience with IP address management to include DHCP scoping and subnet assignments
  • Shall possess experience in hardware /software configuration & troubleshooting
  • Shall possess basic networking skills, TCP/IP Troubleshooting
  • Shall be familiar with NAS, SAN, RAID storage troubleshooting and configuration.
  • Shall possess N+ OR be familiar with Ports and Protocols, Proxy Server, and Firewall configuration.
